Haz Tab Granules 500ml   Ref: 684 The most efficient way to deal with a body fluid spill is to absorb it (Howie 1975), however to make the spill safe at the same time Security Direct have incorporated a powerful and effective disinfectant (NaDCC) into the absorbant in Haz-Tab Granules to ensure safe collection and disposal of the spill. NaDCC granules are recommended by the Department of Health (Guidance for Health Care Workers, 1998) for the disinfection of blood and body fluid spills. For the Effective Disinfection and Disposal of Body Fluid Spills Spillage of body fluids (e.g. blood, urine, liquid faeces, etc) present a serious potential hazard to both patients and the staff who are responsible for mopping up and disinfecting the area. Traditionally, such spills were treated with a liquid disinfectant (e.g. hypochlorite) and mopped up with paper towels. However, this only spreads the spill further, and towels are messy and will drip when handled. This method is particularly dangerous if broken glass is present in the spill. Further, hypochlorite is inactivated by organic material (Bloomfield & Miles, 1979) hence it is less effective as a disinfectant for spills of body fluids. Haz-Tab granules will absorb the spill, (thus safely containing it) and release chlorine to disinfect the area. They contain NaDCC (Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate) a powerful chlorinating agent, which is more efficient in disinfecting body fluids than hypochlorite (Coates & Wilson, 1989) and is proven effective against bacteria, fungi and viruses.
